This page will help you to connect an Apple laptop to one of the Group Study Room HDTVs.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If your MacBook has a retina display, it may not display correctly on the TV. You may see a "check connection" message or a static-filled image. Before connecting to the TV, make sure you scale down the laptop's resolution in System Preferences > Display.

Laptop with MiniDisplay or Thunderbolt

What you will need

  • A laptop with MiniDisplay Port or Thunderbolt output
  • HDMI cable (available to sign out at the Information Desk)
  • MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter (available to sign out at the Information Desk)

How do I know if my laptop has MiniDisplay/Thunderbolt?

Most every MacBook will have one or more of these two ports. Newer MacBooks will have Thunderbolt where older ones will have MiniDisplay Port. The adapters at the Information Desk will work with both.

Look for one of these ports:

  • Turn the television on and make sure the source is set correctly to HDMI (not PC).
  • Wait a few moments - the picture and audio should appear momentarily.

Troubleshooting Video

Sometimes Macs do not automatically mirror the resolution on the TV. If you are getting a picture but cannot see your whole screen, try these steps:

  • Go to  > System Preferences > Displays
  • Click Gather Windows.
